Citigroup Customer Data Leaked on LimeWire
Citigroup is currently investigating a data breach of the confidential data (including Social Security Numbers and credit information) of 5,208 customers. The data was inadvertently leaked onto a peer-to-peer("P2P") file-sharing network via the Limewire software.
The ABN Amro mortgage analyst had installed the Limewire P2P software on her computer and unknowingly exposed the contents of her computer to the file-sharing network, where the spreadsheet of data was promptly downloaded by thousands of P2P users.
