Surprisingly, a security services vendor is showing lax protocol with regards to encryption and mobile data security.

VeriSign is offering their affected employees a one-year subscription to a credit monitoring service. Assuming a conservative cost of $19.95 per month, the "per user" cost is $239.40 for the year. According to VeriSign's fact sheet, the company employs roughly 4,000 worldwide. Even if only half of these employees are affected, VeriSign is looking at an unexpected "out of pocket" loss of roughly $500,000.

If this laptop was simply encrypted and protected with AlertBoot, this security issue would have been completely avoidable and VeriSign would not be losing half a million dollars.

Bet $12.95 / month for AlertBoot is looking pretty good right about now.

Don't make the same mistake as VeriSign — protect your data & your company.
