The Need for Encryption & Security
Every day in the news, there is
another story about a data breach involving stolen credit card numbers or a missing laptop with hundreds of thousands of customers' personal information on it. Every day, another company or government office is coming forward to notify the public of a breach in security. Data leakage and identity theft are big news stories in the media.
But why? Aren't organizations investing in laptop data security measures to protect critical and confidential data?
Unfortunately, the answer is predominantly "NO". While many enterprises do invest in security measures designed to keep intruders
OUT, they spend little to nothing on
INTERNAL data security measures for Insider Threats or Insider Negligence.
Once someone is employed by a company, that person can potentially gain access to almost anything. In the new global economy, data and information are the new currencies.
Is your company protected? Are your workstations in the office and your laptops in the field encrypted and secure?
Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI-compliance, HIPAA, GLBA — all are mandated attempts by government or associations to force organizations which handle confidential information to better protect that data.
Can compliance be a burdensome and difficult process? Yes — especially if computer data security is not necessarily your company’s core competency.
Nevertheless, the price of non-compliance is devastatingly high.
Consider these two examples ripped from the headlines:
A major US retailer loses confidential data on just 10,000 customers via a data breach. Because this data was not encrypted, there is a distinct material risk of fraud or ID theft, and because this retailer never made the effort to protect that data via encryption, the company must go public with the news.
As a result, they are forced to offer one year of identity theft protection and credit report management to the affected parties. The potential, compensatory "out of pocket" loss is upwards of $3,000,000. That dollar amount doesn't even consider the potential losses related to a dip in stock value, bad press, or future lost revenue due to their now tarnished brand name.

An executive at a major data consulting firm keeps his computer on and unlocked at all times — even when he's not in the office. Because he's on the corporate network, an IT employee easily accesses the executive’s workstation and downloads confidential company data.
This IT employee then stores that data on his 80GB pocket music player and walks right out the front door. The information is later sold to a marketing company for a hefty profit.
While the company later recovered the data, the financial damage, unfortunately, had already been done.

If your company's IT information security budget only includes anti-virus software and firewall data protection, your company is ignoring some very serious threats to your confidential data — from both outside and inside your organization.
Without AlertBoot, you're only halfway protected.
AlertBoot data encryption software makes it easy for your organization to become FULLY PROTECTED — with encryption for all your devices and added security to eliminate other threats.
Security compliance has never been so painless.
